Freshwalks – a real San-iT family affair

I recently attended the latest Freshwalksfamily event in Edale with my two kids, Lucas and Orla and labradoodle, Max.

For those that don’t know, Freshwalks connects, educates and revitalises business people in the great outdoors through countryside and coastal hikes as well as city walks. During school holidays, they put on family-friendly events where the format is open to the entire family and kids and grandparents even get to go free. The idea being that the kids can make new friends, temporarily extracted from technology devices, while the grown-ups can have, well, grown up conversations.

We’d last joined one of these special walks about 18 months ago and had really enjoyed it so expectations were high for this summer’s event.

We were not disappointed.

The event was brilliantly organised and attended by a fab group of people. The weather gods were kind to us with a fine, dry day and the Peak District looked as glorious as ever!

And don’t just take my word for it.

My son, Lucas aged 11 years told me afterwards,

it was really fun, a good way to meet new friends, run, walk, climb and go crazy”.

It was lovely to get away from our daily routine and as much as we love technology at San-iT, we also recognise the need to take a break and spend quality human time together. It was heartwarming to see the kids enjoy themselves in nature, letting off some lockdown steam and actually communicating without a device in their hands!

Our founder, Barry, is a huge advocate and supporter of everything that Freshwalks represents; the health and wellbeing benefits as well as the business networking opportunities.

I’m both lucky and proud to work for a company which puts wellbeing so high on its list of priorities. This Freshwalks special family event was the perfect way for me to utilise one of my dedicated ‘Sanity’ days and have a paid day away from my laptop to clear my head and unwind.

One of my colleagues, Emma Howes also attended the event with her husband, Ian, two boys, Ben and Freddie and her gorgeous pooch, Lola. It was lovely to get to know Emma better outside of the working environment and of course in such a safe and socially distanced way.
