Windows 10 to reach end of support

Microsoft technical support and service updates for Windows 10 will end on 14th October 2025. Devices running Windows 10 will continue to work, but will no longer receive critical updates or feature releases.

When a Windows operating system reaches its end of support, it will no longer receive technical assistance, software updates or security patches. This decision is part of Microsoft’s lifecycle policy, which typically provides 10 years’ support for its operating systems.

One of the most critical implications of Windows 10 reaching end of support is the increased security risk. Without regular updates and security patches, the operating system becomes more vulnerable to cyber threats such as viruses and ransomware. Organisations that continue to use Windows 10 beyond its end-of-support date could be exposed to increased security breaches.

Additionally, as more users migrate to Windows 11, software and hardware developers will stop providing updates and drivers that are compatible with legacy operating systems, leading to compatibility issues with business-critical software.

What’s more, continuing to use an unsupported operating system can pose compliance concerns, especially in industries with strict regulatory requirements such as healthcare, finance and law.

It’s not too early to switch

While organisations have over a year to upgrade from Windows 10 before it reaches end of support, Windows 11 already offers functionality not included in the older operating system.

With touchscreen laptops and 2-in-1 devices ever popular, more responsive touch controls are a must-have. Windows 11 adds multi-touch gestures to offer intuitive control over touch devices.

By default, Microsoft’s latest operating system enables advanced security features such as BitLocker encryption, giving an extra layer of protection on your device.

Windows 11 makes multitasking straightforward, building on its predecessor’s window-snapping abilities to offer predefined window layouts and snap groups to easily switch back to previous app layouts.

Get in touch now to start upgrading your devices to Windows 11 and benefit from advanced security, intuitive control and better multitasking.
