Sam Conroy, Projects and Escalation Engineer
I’m a Projects and Escalation Engineer. I joined San-iT in early 2020, working on implementing new projects and troubleshooting complex problems.
I’ve been working in IT for over 35 years, mainly for a major UK drinks manufacturer, an engineering company and a cable manufacturer.
I’m involved in selecting, evaluating and implementing new solutions for our customers, and looking at the root cause of systems that are not working properly. I also look at preventative maintenance. I’m also an escalation point for our Managed Services Engineers, helping, coaching and teaching them when they have issues that they can’t resolve.
Having spent over 30 years working for a number of large business, I know a lot about how they approach different parts of their business, from manufacturing, distribution, warehousing, product development. sales, marketing, HR, accounts and IT, and have been involved in projects in each of these areas. I’ve also been involved as an internal auditor, and in standardising of systems and processes. I have a keen interest in simplifying and standardising systems, making improvements to customers’ systems along with our own internal systems, making everyone’s job simpler.
I like to understand what I’m working with and how it operates and integrates with other systems, getting into the detail, then allowing me to see a wider picture and understanding the implications of any changes that are needed. This means that we put in the right solution for our customers first time. This often involves researching new technologies and the complexities and implications of implementation.
The many years of experience I have is shared across the teams within San-iT. The more that the team knows about me, my knowledge and the systems that I’ve implemented, the more we can use this knowledge for implementing solutions for our customers and ourselves internally.
What I enjoy about my job is that each day is different – sometimes walking into system failures and having to fix these to tight timescales, and on other days I could be working on a project where I can positively make business improvements in our customers’ systems. I love that my team members are approachable and have each others’ backs. We can rely on each other. In the Managed Services teams, we are all technically aware so have a wide range of technical expertise to call upon when needed.
I’ve been married to Debra for 27 years, have two dogs, both working cocker spaniels, so we spend a lot of time walking. When I can, I enjoy going to the cinema and travelling – especially to the US, where we have visited around. 25 states. We also enjoy Disney World, Hawaii and cruising around the Caribbean. I also enjoy building Lego, and have about 400 sets. Currently, I’m collecting vehicles.
