Lucas: my work experience at San-iT
At San-iT, we’re always keen to offer work experience to local pupils. This summer, Lucas from St. James’ Catholic High School, Cheadle Hulme, got involved with a range of tasks.
I went to work at San-IT to improve my knowledge of IT with people that excel at it, as when I leave school, I would like to have a career in IT.
The environment was very welcoming, and everyone was so nice and willing to help with anything I didn’t understand. During my time I did all sorts of things, from configuring software on a laptop and setting up physical devices, to managing hardware inventory. I also worked in other areas, performing competitor analysis and creating a list of potential marketing prospects.
I have learnt that work isn’t as bad as I first thought – and that IT is more than what I originally thought it was. One thing that I don’t enjoy is not having something to do – as this isn’t as fun as it sounds – so I enjoyed the jobs given to me.
My favourite part of the week was when I set up the hardware for a new office, which included setting up a docking station, keyboard, mouse and monitors, as well as compiling a lists of serial numbers for a hardware inventory.
